Hints
In no particular order:- Saving:
- I'll only mention this once: Save often.
- Quick Save before every Conversation, Hack, or Bypass. It'd suck to screw one up only to have to reload from a slot you saved an hour or more ago.
- Use the Save Menu to save in new slots on occasion. These saves stay with your character, so they won't overwrite other games.
- I recommend saving in a new slot when you first land on a plot planet and before starting every major plot point.
- Save your save games. You can re-import them into Mass Effect 3, and you'll get some bonuses.
- There are a limited number of save slots per character, so you'll have to clean these out on occasion. But it's not like you're going to load something from so long ago in the game, right?
- Gameplay:
- Read the manual. It's in the directory where you installed the game.
- Enemies level up at the same rate as you do, so the game is consistently challenging. This also means you need to keep your gear upgraded.
- My favorite guns are: Eagle Pistol, Scimitar Shotgun, Locust SMG, Valiant Sniper, and Harrier Assault Rifle.
- You only get EXP for completing Missions and Assignments. You do NOT get EXP for killing enemies, so look for ways to avoid combat altogether, or at least to shorten it.
- Paragon vs. Renegade. Personally, I've found it very difficult to be consistently one or the other. The game seems to be made for a combination of the two. I find some situations are better with a Paragon response, and others just beg for the Renegade option. I'd go so far as to say the experience is better with whatever mix feels good at the time. In any case, don't sweat your decisions - just have fun. It is, after all, a game.
- Download and install the all of the downloadable content. They're fun!
- If you don't like the new default female face, here's the facecode for the default from ME2:
743.Q9G.M17.F8A.JDQ.62Q.1DA.711.966.414.6G6.177 - Here's the female facecode I use, which is similar to the ME3 import into ME1 and ME2:
743.QGG.M11.F81.JDG.13Q.1EG.611.G66.37D.2GB.176 - It is possible to find stuff on the galxy map without using the scan pulse. Just fly around in open space, and you'll hear the same sound as when the Normandy is over a planet. Then just double-click that spot to gather the resource.
- When exploring, scan the system with the Mass Relay last. Gathering fuel here when you're full is pointless.
- When you re-enter a system with the Reaper Awareness Meter full, the direction your ship faces determines where in the system you appear. This is handy when you want to finish exploring a system without completing some other mission first.
- The Galactic Readiness Rating will decrease over time. If you don't play multiplayer for a month, it'll reset back to 50%. If you really want it at 100% when you finish the single-player game, get to a point just before attacking Cerberus Headquarters, then play multiplayer to get the Rating up, then finish the game.
- With all the DLC nowadays, it's easy to get the 'best' ending without playing multiplayer.
- Buying all the weapon upgrades to X in the game costs about six million credits. Focus on upgrading only your favoirite weapons.
- System:
- Disabling the intro logo movie will cause the game to not load, so don't even bother.
- I've never gotten the iPad apps to connect to Galaxy at War, threfore I recommend avoiding them.
- You can start a New Game Plus without having beaten the game. First, start a new game and Save it when you gain control of Shepard. Exit the game, and open a Save Game Editor. In Gibbed's, open the save game you just saved. On the Raw tab, the second line down is End Game State. Change this to LivedToFightAgain. Save on the New Game Plus slot and exit the editor. Start up the game again and choose new game, and Imoprt ME3 Character. Be warned, however, that some of your choices from ME1 and ME2 will have been forgotten, and defaults used instead.
- To upgrade weapons to level X (10) without starting a New Game Plus, open Gibbed's Save Editor and go to Raw > Plot > Plot > Known Variables, and change New Game + Count from 0 to 1.
- To unlock the N7 Hoodie casual outfit, open Gibbed's Save Editor and load a save game. Under >Raw > Plot > Plot > Boolean, find 22590 and change it to True.
- To unlock the Robo Dog, go to the same place and change 21187. The 'Urz on the Normandy' mod does this for you.
- Combat:
- Use your Abilities often. They make combat easier, especially on the higher difficulty levels.
- If you're annoyed by how often Cerberus troops drop smoke bombs, equip a Thermal Scope on your weapon to see through it while aiming.
- Challenge modes: either never fire your gun, or never use your abilities.
Coalesced Tweaks
- Make a backup of Mass Effect 3BIOGameCookedPCConsoleCoalesced.bin
- Download the Coalesced Editor and extract it to a handy location. Lastly, run it.
- If you don't feel like doing all this yourself, download this file that I edited with all of the below tweaks.
- DO NOT PLAY MULTIPLAYER with these in effect, as you could be banned for life from all Origin Games. Instead, restore your backup before accessing multiplayer online.

Mass Effect 3 How To Increase Readiness Rating
Editing War Assets
If you don't want to have to play multiplayer to get to 100%, this is how. Actually, it's not really necesary if you have all the DLC installed. Note that this will only work for new games, or for assets you have yet to acquire. Rather than change all of them (there are a lot), just pick one you know you'll acquire and change it to 90000.
bioui.ini > sfxgame > sfxgawarassethandler > allassets
To change the value of a War Asset, edit the 'StartingStrength' value. To negate the Galactic Readiness penalty, for example, you can double all the values. Example:
(ID=0,AssetName='GAWAsset_AllianceEngineeringCorp',Type=GAWAssetType_Military,SubType=GAWAssetSubType_Ground,StartingStrength=260,GUIName=715401,GUIDescription=715515,bIsExploration=False,UnlockPlotStates[0]=0,GUICategoryID=1,DebugConditionalDescription='None',bShowNotificationOnAward=false,ImagePath='gui_codex_images.galaxyAtWar.GM_HumansNoArmor_512x256',NotificationImagePath=')

Eliminate Store Markup
Eliminates the 10% more that the Normandy charges over the stores on the Citadel. The 10% graphic will still appear on the Normandy's Procurement Interface screen, though.

Unlock Stores & Bonus Powers
Allow access to Bonus Powers and the Citadel's stores before you've unlocked them in-game. Normally, you have to visit a store on the Citadel in order to have access to it on the Normandy, and you have to complete a certain Priority Mission to unlock one of the Bonus Powers in Med-Bay. You'll still need to get to that point in the plot where you're allowed access, though.

Console Cheats
- Download Binkw_dll.zip - Extract the .dll files into .Mass Effect 3BinariesWin32
- When playing in-game simply press the ~ (tilde key), above tab (also known as ` (grave)) to open the console, then type in the desired cheat. The TAB key brings up a single box at the bottom of the screen, if you prefer.
- Do not play multiplayer with these in effect. Instead, restore your backup before going online.

Effective Military Strength is the point tally of all the War Assets you gather from the main game, Side Missions and conversation choices. Galactic Readiness is a general term, often used interchangeably with 'Effective Military Strength.' Your Effective Military Strength rating can be viewed at the War Assets panel in the CIC on the Normandy.
To calculate your Readiness / Effective Military Strength rating, the game multiplies your Total Military Strength score (made up of War Assets) by the Readiness Rating percentage (a percentage you can ONLY increase via Multiplayer and by playing Mass Effect Infiltrator on iOS).
Galactic MathEffective Military Strength = (Total Military Strength) x (Readiness Rating)
So with a Total Military Strength (TMS) of 5400, and a Readiness Rating of 50% (the default without playing Multiplayer), your TMS will be half of 5400, or only 2700.

Your Effective Military Strength score when you begin the final attack on the enemy base directly affects the 16 Endings of Mass Effect 3.
